2024, May, 2nd - After 17 years, Diaf one of the top three art shows in South Korea will take place in May this year rather than November as it usually does. Diaf 2024, arranged by the Diaf Steering Committee and hosted by the Galleries Association of Daegue, will take place at the Daegu Exco over the course of four days, beginning on May 2 with a VIP preview and concluding on May 5.

2008 saw the creation of Diaf, then known as the "Daegu Art Fair," in Daegu, the cultural and artistic hub that gave rise to many masterpieces. They introduced a new brand name, "Diaf (Daegu international art fair)" in 2022 in an effort to expand beyond the local art market and become a global art fair.

With about 110 booths from both domestic and foreign galleries, Diaf 2024 is anticipated to be the largest yet in terms of overall scope, with each booth projected to grow in size. The number of participating galleries is comparable to prior years. There will include pieces by internationally recognized artists like Alex Katz, Yayoi Kusama, George Kondo, and David Galstein in addition to prominent Korean artists like Lee Ufan, Lee Bae, and Hoon Kwak.

A variety of programs will be offered, such as the "Live Room," which offers live streaming of talks, debates, and lectures, docent tours, and artist performances in the "Art Performance Zone." A two-part special exhibition called "New Media Art" will also be on display at this year's Diaf, displaying digital media pieces on huge LED displays.

"Diaf 2024 PREVIEW in SEOUL" is a preview event for the participating galleries' artwork that takes place in preparation of Diaf 2024. It takes place from April 18 to April 28 at the Culture Hall, located on the 10th floor of the Hyundai Department Store Trade Center in Seoul.

다이아프(Diaf)는 대한민국에서 17년간 이어져 온 3대 아트페어 중 하나로, 올해에는 원래의 개최 시기인 11월이 아닌 5월로 앞당겨 열릴 예정입니다. 대구화랑협회가 주최하고 Diaf운영위원회가 주관하는 Diaf 2024는 오는 5월 2일 VIP 프리뷰를 시작으로 5일까지 4일 간 대구 엑스코 동관에서 개최됩니다.

Diaf는 근대 미술의 발상지이자 수많은 거장을 낳은 문화 예술 도시 대구를 무대로, 2008년에 대구아트페어라는 이름으로 시작되었습니다. 그리고 국내 미술시장을 넘어 세계적인 아트페어로 도약하고자, 2022년부터 ‘Diaf(Daegu international art fair)’라는 이름으로 다시 출발했습니다.

Diaf 2024에는 국내외 약 110여 개의 화랑 부스가 마련되어 참여 화랑 수는 예년과 비슷하지만, 각 부스의 크기를 확대하여 전체적으로는 역대 최대 규모가 될 것으로 예상됩니다. 이번 행사에서는 이우환, 이배, 곽훈 등 한국을 대표하는 작가들뿐 아니라 알렉스 카츠, 쿠사마 야요이, 조지 콘도, 데이비드 걸스타인 등 해외 유명 작가들의 작품도 볼 수 있을 것으로 예정되어 있습니다.

부대행사로는 강연회, 토크쇼, 토론회와 같은 다양한 프로그램이 마련되어 있으며, 이를 온라인 생방송으로 시청할 수 있는 “라이브룸(Live Room)”, 도슨트 프로그램, ‘Art Performance Zone’에서의 아티스트 퍼포먼스 프로그램 등도 포함됩니다. 또한, Diaf 2024에서는 대형 LED를 활용하여 디지털 미디어 작품을 선보이는 “New Media Art” 특별전도 기획되어 있으며, 두 개의 파트로 나뉘어 진행될 예정입니다.

또한, Diaf 2024에 앞서 참여 화랑들의 작품을 미리 살펴볼 수 있는 “Diaf 2024 PREVIEW in SEOUL”이 4월 18일부터 28일까지 서울 현대백화점 무역센터점 10층 문화홀에서 열립니다.
