2024, March 14 - Miniature art refers to a form of art where highly detailed and intricate works are created on a small scale. These artworks can include paintings, sculptures, or other forms of artistic expression. Miniature art often requires precise brushwork, fine detail, and a steady hand to execute due to the limited space available for the artist to work with.

Miniature artist Tatsuya Tanaka's exhibition MINIATURE LIFE · MITATE MIND is currently underway at MPX Gallery in Yeouido, Seoul.

MITATE MIND means using one object to depict or impersonate another. Ultimately leading to making the right choice. In other words, it means the mind to look at familiar objects in a new way. You can see works in which round glasses are expressed as bicycles, soft ice cream is expressed as a wedding dress, and hangers are expressed as waves.

This shows that just changing your perspective on things can make things new. In addition, you can enjoy works of art that express foods that we easily encounter in our lives, such as hot dogs, potato chips, sushi, corn, bread, and mushrooms, in various forms and from a different perspective.

This work is called “Home Sweet Home,” something you say when you come home. As expected, home is the best, and that feeling was expressed with sweet waffles, ice cream, and chocolate.

The work “Love That Never Cools” also shows the author’s expressive power. We stacked engagement rings and wedding rings to create a bathtub and filled it with warm water to represent an elderly couple taking a bath. It shows that they can chat and enjoy a bath together even as they get older. The ring and warm water express their promise, adding more meaning to it.

Some works depict lifeless things in a witty way by personifying them. Tuna Sushi also depicts an interesting scene where people go shopping for clothes and then shop for other clothes such as salmon, octopus, and egg rolls.

Tanaka's work often incorporates a sense of humor and imagination, transforming mundane items into captivating and imaginative scenarios. His miniatures have garnered a large following on social media platforms like Instagram, where he shares his daily creations with his audience. Tanaka's art demonstrates his ability to see the extraordinary in the ordinary and has inspired many people to appreciate the beauty of small-scale creativity.

MITATE MIND는 대상을 다른 것 에 빗대어 비유하는 것, 보고 좋은 것을 선택해 결정하는 것 입니다. 즉 익숙한 사물을 새롭게 다시 바라보는 마음을 의미합니다. 동그란 안경이 자전거로, 소프트 아이스크림이 웨딩드레스로, 옷걸이가 파도로 표현된 작품들을 볼 수 있습니다. 이는 사물을 바라보는 관점을 조금만 바꿔도 새로워 질 수 있다는 것을 보여줍니다. 또한 핫도그, 감자칩, 초밥, 옥수수, 빵, 버섯 등 우리가 살면서 편하게 접하는 음식들도 다양한 형태로 관점을 바꿔서 표현한 작품들을 감상할 수 있습니다.

이 작품은 집에 귀가했을 때 하는 말 “Home Sweet Home” 이라는 작품입니다. 역시 집이 최고 라는 뜻으로 달콤한 와플, 아이스크림, 초콜렛으로 그 느낌을 표현했습니다.

식지않는 사랑이라는 작품도 작가의 표현력을 보여줍니다. 약혼반지와 결혼반지를 쌓아올려 욕실을 만들고 그 안에 따듯한 물을 가득 채워 노부부가 탕목욕을 하고 있는 장면을 표혔했습니다. 나이가 들어도 수다를 떨며 함께 목욕을 즐길 수 있는 사이를 보여주고 약속을 표현하는 반지와 따듯한 물로 그 의미를 더 했습니다

일부 작품들은 생명이 없는 것을 의인화 시켜서 재치있게 표현 했습니다. 참치초밥은 옷을 사러가서 연어, 문어, 달걀말이 등 다른 옷을 쇼핑하는 재미있는 장면도 표현 해 냈습니다.

다나카의 작품에는 유머 감각과 상상력이 결합되어 일상적인 아이템을 매력적이고 상상력이 풍부한 시나리오로 바꾸는 경우가 많습니다. 그의 미니어처는 인스타그램과 같은 소셜 미디어 플랫폼에서 큰 관심을 끌었으며, 이곳에서 그는 매일 창작한 작품을 사람들과 공유합니다. 다나카의 예술은 평범함 속에서 비범함을 보는 그의 능력을 보여주며 많은 사람들이 소규모 창의성의 아름다움을 감상하도록 영감을 주었습니다.
