Hallyu, also known as the Korean Wave, refers to the global spread and popularity of South Korean culture, particularly its entertainment industry. This includes various aspects such as K-pop, K-dramas , K-films, K-beauty, and other forms of Korean entertainment and cultural products.

From March 24 to July 28, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston will host an exhibition on Hallyu, featuring about 250 items related to Korean popular culture, including clothes worn by K-pop celebrities.

According to the US museum, the exhibition, titled "Hallyu! The Korean Wave," would examine South Korea's "meteoric rise to the world stage" in terms of its influence and cultural reach.

The show will feature modern artwork, such as designs by Park So-hee, the founder of the womenswear brand Miss Sohee in London, and needlework by multimedia artist Ham Kyung-ah, based in Seoul and recognized for using traditional North Korean fabrics.

The exhibition also features pieces from the MFA's own esteemed collection of Korean art, the museum said, citing examples such as hanbok, a traditional Korean dress, moon jars, and gilt bronze boxes used to store precious Buddhist books.

Separate seminars will be held as part of the exhibit until early May in order to aid visitors in deepening their awareness of Korea, whose "creative outputs are deeply rooted in its past," as stated by the MFA.

The CHA said that the Museum of Fine Arts will contribute the "sarira," or bead-shaped corporeal relics of Buddhist masters, which are found inside the reliquary. The donation is expected to be finished by May 15, the day of the Buddha's Birthday celebration.

이번 전시에는 런던에 본사를 둔 여성복 브랜드 미스소희 (Miss Sohee)의 대표 디자이너 박소희의 작품과 북한 수제 직물을 활용한 서울 기반 멀티미디어 아티스트 함경아의 자수 작품 등 현대 작품들이 전시됩니다.

박물관은 한국 백자의 일종인 달 항아리에 대해 언급했습니다. “또한 이번 전시에는 MFA가 자체적으로 보유한 유명한 한국 미술 컬렉션의 유물도 전시합니다.”라고 말했습니다. 한국의 전통 의상인 한복과 신성한 불교 경전을 보관하는 금동 케이스 또한 전시 될 예정입니다.

관람객들을 위해 “과거에 뿌리를 둔 창의적인 결과물”인 한국 작품에 대한 이해를 넓힐 수 있도록 별도의 강연이 5월 초까지 진행될 예정이라고 MFA는 밝혔습니다.

문화재청은 사리함 내부에서 발견된 구슬 모양의 스님들의 사리를 기증할 예정이며, 부처님 오신 날인 5월 15일까지 기증을 완료할 예정이라고 말했습니다.
