Completed in 2021 in Montevideo, the 430-square-foot Vicente House shows how a small footprint can still feel spacious. Local firm MASA Arquitectos designed the home as a direct response to the pandemic’s shake-up of daily life, treating instability as the new normal.

Instead of fighting the feeling of uncertainty, the team embraced it. They used warm Maguinor wood and clean lines to carve out flexible living zones that can shift as needs change. The kitchen, sleeping nook, and workspace all fold into one another, separated only by lightweight furniture and changes in floor level.

Large windows and sliding doors connect the interior to a compact patio, extending the sense of space. A muted palette of wood, concrete, and soft textiles keeps the focus on light and shadow rather than clutter. The architects say the house proves that balance today doesn’t mean rigidity—it means being ready to adapt.
