Riot Games has officially revealed Mel, the newest champion in League of Legends (LoL). A Noxus native following the footsteps of Ambessa, Mel introduces a unique hybrid playstyle that combines high-impact damage-dealing capabilities with supportive features, making her a versatile pick for both mid-lane and support roles.

A key innovation with Mel is the introduction of LoL’s first reflection skill, allowing players to block incoming attacks and redirect them to enemies. Coupled with her passive ability and ultimate, Mel can deal significant magic damage while protecting her team. This blend of offense and defense positions her as a game-changer in tactical gameplay.

Mel’s passive, Scorching Radiance, equips her next basic attack with up to nine additional projectiles whenever she uses a skill. These projectiles deal magic damage and enhance her overall impact. Additionally, her abilities build up stacks of Overwhelm, which, when fully charged, execute enemies or unleash devastating area damage.

Her Q ability, Shower of Light, inflicts repeated damage by firing a flurry of projectiles that explode near enemies. This makes Mel particularly effective in securing lane dominance. Her W, Rebuttal, allows Mel to dash, creating a protective barrier around herself while reflecting projectiles at attackers, neutralizing their assault. Her E, Solar Snare, launches an orb that immobilizes enemies in its center, dealing sustained damage and supporting team fights.

Mel’s ultimate, Golden Eclipse, leverages her Overwhelm stacks to deliver massive damage regardless of distance. The ability scales significantly with stack accumulation, rewarding players who can strategically build and utilize these charges.

According to Myles Salholm, Lead Gameplay Designer at Riot Games, “Mel represents a natural progression following her arc in Arcane Season 2, showcasing her evolution as a mage. We hope players will enjoy creating game-changing moments with her innovative skillset.”

Players can test Mel starting January 9 on the LoL Public Beta Environment (PBE). Riot Games invites players to explore the champion’s unique abilities and unleash her potential in the Rift. Further details can be found on the official LoL website.
