A special memorial concert is set to take place this October, marking the 10th anniversary of the passing of legendary South Korean rock star Shin Hae-chul. The event, titled "Mawang 10th: Ghost Stage," will be held on October 26-27 at the Inspire Arena in Yeongjongdo, Incheon.
This concert serves as a tribute to Shin Hae-chul, a towering figure in the Korean music industry, whose influence continues to resonate a decade after his untimely death. The event will feature a reinterpretation of Shin's music and philosophy, with performances spanning a variety of genres, showcasing the versatility and impact of his work.
Organizers of the event emphasized that the concert is envisioned as a celebratory music festival rather than a somber remembrance. The production team, along with participating musicians, aims to create a joyous atmosphere that reflects Shin's vibrant personality and enduring legacy.
Blind tickets for the concert were available for purchase on Interpark from August 26-28, even before the announcement of the performer lineup. Details regarding the artists who will take part in the event, as well as additional ticket sale schedules, will be released in the coming weeks.
Shin Hae-chul made his debut in 1988 after winning the grand prize at the MBC Campus Music Festival with his band Muhangwedo and their hit song "To You." He quickly rose to prominence as a solo artist, with iconic tracks such as "Jazz Cafe" and "You, Deep in My Heart." As the frontman of the rock band N.ex.t, Shin played a pivotal role in pioneering experimental rock music in South Korea.
Beyond his musical talents, Shin was also known for his outspoken views on social issues, sharp wit, and electrifying stage presence, earning him the nickname "Mawang," which translates to "demon lord" in Korean. His life was tragically cut short in 2014 due to complications from medical malpractice during surgery.
