Several prominent K-pop groups are reuniting after extended breaks, marking significant milestones in their careers. This trend is driven by factors such as renewed fan interest, changes in the music industry, and the resolution of legal or contractual issues.
2NE1, a leading girl group from YG Entertainment, will hold their first full-group performance in 10 years with the "2024 2NE1 Concert: Welcome Back in Seoul" from October 4-6 at Olympic Hall, celebrating their 15th debut anniversary. Since their last concert in 2014, members of 2NE1 have focused on solo careers.
JYJ members Kim Jae Joong and Kim Juns Su, formerly of TVXQ, are set to reunite for their 20th debut anniversary with the "JX 2024 Concert Identity in Seoul" from November 8-10 at the KSPO Dome. This will be their first concert as a duo in five years and their first group activity since 2015. They will perform under the project name JX due to ongoing legal issues with former TVXQ members Yunho and Changmin, who will not be part of the reunion.
Additionally, GFriend, another influential K-pop group, will reunite in January 2024 after nearly four years of hiatus. The group disbanded in 2021 following the expiration of their contract with Source Music, but fans are eagerly awaiting their return. During their active years, GFriend gained popularity with hit songs like "Rough" and "Navillera." Three of the members, Eunha, SinB, and Umji, re-debuted as part of the group VIVIZ.
Music industry experts note that improved management coordination and extended careers for K-pop idols are making these reunions more feasible, with many groups continuing activities well beyond the typical seven-year mark.
