The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) recently celebrated a milestone in cultural diplomacy by graduating 30 participants from its Level-Up Class K-pop dance program in Abuja. The comprehensive training program provided students with intensive instruction in K-pop dance techniques, synchronization skills, and stage performance abilities, marking another successful chapter in Nigeria-Korea cultural relations.
This year's cohort was notable for its diversity, particularly the inclusion of older participants alongside younger dancers. Yun-Jin Lee, KCCN's Culture Officer, emphasized the significance of this development and highlighted an emerging trend in the program. Lee noted the growing connection between Afrobeat and K-pop music styles, which has fostered innovative cross-cultural creativity among participants and opened new avenues for artistic expression.
The program's impact extends beyond dance instruction, serving as a bridge between two distinct cultural traditions. Dance instructor Isaac Jiga praised KCCN's efforts in successfully blending Nigerian and Korean cultures through the medium of dance. Jiga emphasized that K-pop dance serves as a universal language that transcends traditional barriers, allowing participants to connect across linguistic and cultural differences.
The Level-Up Class represents a key component of KCCN's broader cultural mission in Nigeria. The program demonstrates the center's commitment to enhancing mutual understanding between Nigeria and Korea through artistic exchange and cultural education. By providing accessible training in Korean popular culture, KCCN continues to strengthen the cultural ties between the two nations while promoting cross-cultural appreciation and artistic collaboration.
