A remarkable renovation project in Chicago's legendary Marina City has transformed two separate apartments into a stunning 2,000-square-foot residence that perfectly balances historical preservation with contemporary functionality. The project, designated MC05, was created for an art gallerist and collector who needed space that could both house and showcase their extensive collection while maintaining the architectural integrity of Bertrand Goldberg's iconic design.
The ambitious renovation was executed by MAS Studio and Future Firm, working in collaboration with ELLIPSIS Architecture. The design team faced the unique challenge of combining a one-bedroom unit with a two-bedroom unit within the Chicago landmark building. Their solution involved opening up the floorplan strategically to prioritize the spectacular views that overlook the Marina City complex, creating a seamless flow between the formerly separate spaces.
