Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) left an indelible mark on the art world with her seven-decade-long career, marked by boundless creativity spanning monumental installations, figurative sculptures, and abstract collages.
Focused on the prolific final two decades of Bourgeois's life, this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into a period of extraordinary creativity, where the artist fearlessly re-examined her lifelong preoccupations. Through a powerful body of new work, Bourgeois fearlessly explored themes of identity, gender, childhood, family, and memory, inviting viewers into a deeply personal and thought-provoking artistic realm.
As part of the current ARTIST ROOMS Louise Bourgeois tour, the Grundy Art Gallery proudly presents one of the artist's monumental spider sculptures, "Spider 1994." This iconic piece, on loan from The Easton Foundation, takes center stage, captivating visitors with its commanding presence and symbolic weight.
