Director and co-writer of the upcoming American superhero film "The Marvels," Nia DaCosta, revealed that she cast Park Seo-joon in the movie after watching the hit 2020 TV drama "Itaewon Class" during the pandemic.
In "The Marvels," Park Seo-joon plays the role of Prince Yan of Aladna, marking his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Hollywood.
During an online press conference, DaCosta, 33, shared her enthusiasm for Korean culture and how she rediscovered it during the pandemic.
She mentioned her admiration for Korean dramas, films, K-pop, and variety shows, and noted that "Itaewon Class" played a pivotal role in her introduction to Park Seo-joon. She found the character of Prince Yan to be an excellent fit for him.

While details about Prince Yan's role are limited, DaCosta mentioned that he is a significant character whom Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, encounters as she travels to the past.
DaCosta deliberately withheld extensive information about both Carol Danvers and Prince Yan to keep the plot under wraps. She highlighted their shared commitment to protecting the people as a point of connection.
DaCosta described Park Seo-joon as a fantastic actor with great energy and a great sense of humor. She added that everyone on set admired him and hinted at a musical sequence, as Prince Yan's world involves rhyming in speech.
Despite his brief screen time, Park's character is expected to have a substantial impact on the storyline.
"The Marvels" is a sequel to 2019's "Captain Marvel" and follows the narratives of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. The film is set to premiere in local theaters on November 8.
