From March 5 to March 23, 2025, Gallery Gaia in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, will host "Welcome to Wonderland," a solo exhibition by Sara Lee, an artist known for her vibrant and imaginative creations that blend neo-pop aesthetics with literary narratives.
Sara Lee, who holds a Ph.D. from Hongik University, has gained international recognition through 35 solo exhibitions and participation in prestigious art fairs such as Art Miami, Art Taipei, and KIAF. Her works have also been featured in numerous television dramas, establishing her as a prominent figure in contemporary art.

"Wonderland," the central theme of this exhibition, is a universe infused with childlike innocence, playful monsters, and dreamlike imagery. The wide-eyed, sparkling gaze of her characters, along with their whimsical expressions, evokes a world filled with sweet optimism and boundless imagination. At its core, "Wonderland" embodies nostalgia and the purity of childhood, inviting viewers to reconnect with their lost sense of wonder.
To achieve the delicate textures and vibrant depth in her artwork, Sara Lee employs a unique process. Instead of using traditional canvas, she constructs a multi-layered wooden surface, meticulously sanding it down to create a polished, smooth finish. She then applies thin layers of bright, cheerful colors, before meticulously carving out details with a sharp blade—an intensive, meditative process akin to an artistic ritual.

This exhibition offers a sanctuary of nostalgia, self-reflection, and healing. The fusion of neo-pop aesthetics and storytelling within Sara Lee’s Wonderland encourages viewers to embrace their inner child and rediscover forgotten dreams. As visitors step into this whimsical, candy-colored utopia, they are invited to escape the noise of everyday life and immerse themselves in a world where happiness and curiosity reign supreme.
"Welcome to Wonderland" will be open to the public free of charge at Gallery Gaia until March 23, 2025.
