During a press conference in Seoul on Monday, Billboard CEO Mike Vans revealed plans to launch Billboard Korea, a subsidiary aimed at extensively covering the Korean music industry. Scheduled for launch in June, Billboard Korea intends to serve as a cultural ambassador for Korean music and culture, leveraging Billboard's digital and social platforms.
The new venture plans to produce monthly magazines and original content, with a focus on engaging both artists and fans. Vans highlighted Billboard's capacity for creating branded content to be distributed across various platforms.
Billboard Korea will collaborate closely with Billboard headquarters in the US, functioning as the Korean music team. Kim Yuna, the publisher of Billboard Korea, emphasized the intention to cover a broad spectrum of Korean music genres, not solely focusing on K-pop.
Vans expressed confidence in the continued success of K-pop within the global music industry, noting the genre's robust volume, quality, and diversity. This marks Vans' first visit to South Korea since assuming office in May 2022, during which he plans to meet with Billboard partners over the next five days.
