Making a highly anticipated comeback after an almost two-year hiatus, the girl group Everglow has unveiled its latest album, "All My Girls," with an unapologetic message of breaking free from societal expectations.
The transformative album, which dropped on Friday, ushers in a new era for Everglow. At a press showcase hosted at the Yes24 Live Hall in eastern Seoul to celebrate the EP, leader Sihyeon shared, "This album is a message to everyone who has lost themselves trying to fit the definition of a ‘good girl,’ and is also a message to ourselves." The album serves as an anthem for the group's journey of self-discovery and embracing individuality.
The three-track EP "All My Girls" arrives one year and eight months following the group's previous release, "Return of the Girl," in December 2021. Anchored by the lead track "Slay," Everglow's latest endeavor seeks to shatter conventions and elevate women to new heights, as encapsulated in the lyrics of the powerful electronic pop dance track. The song not only resonates with the present era but also carries a resolute call for change.
While the members did not delve into the specifics behind their prolonged absence, they expressed their commitment to unveiling a more refined and mature side of the group. Member Aisha revealed, "One reason why it took us so long to come back is because we wanted to make sure that we were pitch-perfect when we did come back. We spent much time thinking which song would show us the best. We held each other’s hands and cried during the process because we wanted to make sure that we really were perfect."
Having emerged on the scene in 2019 under Yue Hua Entertainment, Everglow rapidly secured a devoted following with tracks such as "Bon Bon Chocolat" (2019), "Dun Dun" (2020), and "La Di Da" (2020). Their music resonated particularly well with international listeners who favored their assertive sound.
According to Aisha, the diverse appearances of the six members, almost resembling a collection of individuals from different nations, could contribute to their global appeal. "I’ve seen a lot of online comments about this and this could also be a reason," she noted humorously.
With this long-awaited comeback, Everglow is dedicated to validating their fans' patience. The group embarked on a period of introspection, exploring ways to enhance their craft and personal growth. Sihyeon assured fans, "I want to assure fans that they were right to wait for us. We hope everyone sees how much effort we’ve put into this."
E:U, another member of the group, reinforced the sentiment, saying, "We’ll be active not only on television music shows but also with diverse content, so please tune in."
With "All My Girls," Everglow steps into a vibrant new chapter, delivering not only a resonant musical experience but also a bold message of empowerment and authenticity for fans around the world.
