Taemin, a member of the K-pop boy band SHINee, presents his fourth mini-album titled "Guilty," in which he takes on the dual roles of a young, naive character and an enigmatic antagonist, revealing two distinct facets of his artistic identity.
The singer, who made his debut at the age of 14 in 2008, explained during a press event at Megabox Seongsu in eastern Seoul, "Many people still see me as a young boy. So, I thought it will be more appealing if I act and perform in a contrasting manner, making myself look more like a mature man."
This duality is most prominently featured in the trailer and music video for the lead single, "Guilty," which carries a cinematic quality. The video showcases Taemin initially as a carefree young man residing in a mysterious shelter where he and his friends are incessantly observed by unidentified watchers. The tranquil beginning of his life takes a dramatic turn when these observers compel an unconscious Taemin to harm his friends, who subsequently vanish. Recognizing his actions, Taemin undergoes a transformation, evolving into a character with villainous qualities.

Concerning his foray into acting, Taemin admitted, "I was worried about acting because I do not have much experience. So I spent a lot of time practicing acting in front of the mirror and sought advice from others to ensure authenticity."
"Guilty" not only marks Taemin's musical evolution but also offers insights into his evolving artistry. He described himself as an artist who immerses himself in his characters akin to an actor in a drama or film, aiming to embody the persona of his songs on stage.
Taemin, who is selective in choosing the tracks for his albums, emphasized the importance of including songs that resonate with him personally, such as "Think Of You" (2020) and "2 KIDS" (2020). He believes this approach adds authenticity to his music and reflects his true self.
In addition to the title track "Guilty," the mini-album features five other songs: "The Rizzness," "Blue," "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not," "Not Over You," "Night Away," and "Blue."
Compared to his previous solo releases, "Guilty" comprises tunes that are more accessible and possess a pop sound. Taemin specifically championed the inclusion of "Blue" on the album, even when his company exhibited reservations.
As SHINee commemorates its 15th anniversary this year, Taemin expressed gratitude to his global fanbase for their unwavering support and dedication, emphasizing their significance in his life.
