Special Exhibition of Artists with Developmental Disabilities, ‘Dreamability’ … Collaboration with established artists

Published November 9, 2022 08:59 AM

A large-scale special exhibition in collaboration between “artists with developmental disabilities and established artists” is attracting art lovers towards the end of autumn.

The title of exhibition is “Dreamability”.

In the exhibition, 80 artists with developmental disabilities and well-known domestic artists including In Kim, Haeng-bo Park, Jae-Ok Lee, Chung-Sik Chung, Gi-won Lee, and Stony Kang will exhibit their representative works.

What makes this exhibition special is that artists with developmental disabilities and well-known artists compete on the same stage with equal qualifications. A total of 120 works were submitted, each with a variety of themes.

Artists with developmental disabilities participating in the exhibition were selected in advance through a transparent contest. Vichaeart Museum, which organized the exhibition, said that the process of selecting artists with developmental disabilities through a contest is a necessary process for them to grow as artists.

“We tried to exclude commercial direction from this exhibition. I want the audience to abandon the prejudice that they are disabled and just focus on their works. until now, exhibitions related to the disabled are usually planned out of prejudice or unnecessary consideration. The Dreamability is more meaningful in that both non-disabled and the disabled artists participate in the exhibition as equal artists,” said Soo-mi Jeon, director of Vichaeart Museum.

Famous painter Jeong-sik Jeong, participating in the exhibition, said, “I have already completed unpublished works, but for this meaningful exhibition, I stayed up all night to prepare a new work.”

“Through this exhibition, I hope that the audience will become more familiar with the special perspective of artists with developmental disabilities. In some ways, This exhibition is a dream come true for them. and I hope that the audience will also be reminded of their forgotten dreams by looking at their works,” Soo-mi Jeon added.

Vichaeart Museum has been well-received by holding various exhibitions related to artists with developmental disabilities.

This exhibition will be held from November 17 to 27 at the Design Museum in the Seoul Arts Center in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Tickets can be purchased at Interpark.
