An eight-meter-tall sculpture of a seated girl has been installed at Galleria Luxury Hall in Seoul as part of an exhibition by Korean artist Moon Hyeong-tae.
Galleria Department Store said Wednesday that Moon’s Sleeping Princess has been installed in the outdoor plaza of its Luxury Hall East building, while his exhibition Carousel is being presented on the fifth floor of Luxury Hall West.
Sleeping Princess depicts a girl sitting with her eyes closed, recreated as a monumental inflatable sculpture based on one of the artist’s new three-dimensional works.
The work addresses the process of understanding what one truly wants rather than focusing on what one possesses. Internal lighting illuminates the sculpture at night, giving the installation a different appearance after dark.
The indoor portion of Carousel features 21 new original works, including 14 paintings and seven three-dimensional pieces, alongside nine edition works.
Among them are the exhibition’s central work, Perfect Picture, works from Moon’s predominantly black-and-white Mono Series, and a selection of new sculptural pieces.
All works on display are available for purchase. Prints and object editions are priced between 1.2 million won and 1.6 million won, while ceramic editions are priced in the 300,000-won range. Prices for original works are available at the venue.
Moon has developed a practice centered on everyday scenes and relationships between people. His work has been presented in Korea and overseas, including in New York and Tokyo, and he held a solo exhibition in Paris in April.
With the project, Galleria is using both its indoor retail space and outdoor plaza as exhibition venues, placing large-scale installations alongside conventional gallery displays.
Carousel runs through Oct. 1.
