Nexon Games CEO Recognized with Presidential Commendation at Korea Content Awards

Park Yong Hyun, CEO of Nexon Games, has been honored with a Presidential Commendation at the 2024 Korea Content Awards for his contributions to the advancement of the gaming industry. The awards, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, recognize individuals and works that have shaped the global cultural landscape through the success of K-content.

Park, acknowledged in the Overseas Expansion Achievement category, founded Net Games (now Nexon Games) in 2013. Under his leadership, the company has developed hit games such as HIT, V4, and Blue Archive, driving the growth of Korea’s gaming sector and expanding its global influence. In 2023, Nexon Games achieved an annual revenue of KRW 193.3 billion, an operating profit of KRW 12 billion, and exports worth KRW 54.6 billion.

A Nexon Games representative stated, "CEO Park Yong Hyun has dedicated decades to game development, creating diverse titles that showcase the competitive edge of K-games globally. This Presidential Commendation is a testament to his efforts and achievements. It motivates our entire team to continue striving for excellence and creating games that are recognized worldwide."

Other honorees at the Korea Content Awards included Kim Hyung Seok, CEO of Smilegate Super Creative, and Gong Joon Shik, CEO of Supercent, both of whom received Ministerial Commendations.

Kim was recognized for his role in developing games like Titan: Mother of Myth and Soccer Spirits. His 2015 mobile game, Epic Seven, achieved notable success, with service in over 140 countries, 17 million global downloads, and cumulative sales of approximately $680 million.

Gong established Supercent, a hyper-casual game publisher with 500 million cumulative downloads and 12 titles surpassing 10 million downloads each. Notably, the 2022 release Burger Please! was named Best Mobile Tycoon Game at the Sensor Tower APAC Awards 2023, reinforcing the competitiveness of Korea's gaming industry.

The Game Industry Development Achievement Awards (Presidential Commendations) were also presented to Choi Ji Won, director at Neowiz, and professional esports player Kim Kwan Woo.

Choi was honored for her work on the console game Lies of P, which not only established itself as a critically acclaimed title globally but also charted a new direction for the Korean gaming industry by focusing on console games. The game reached 7 million users in 2024, highlighting its success.

Kim Kwan Woo, a veteran in the fighting game genre with a 20-year career, has consistently achieved remarkable results in international tournaments. His gold medal win in Street Fighter V at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games significantly elevated the status of Korean esports on the global stage.

The 2024 Korea Content Awards celebrated the exceptional achievements of individuals and organizations in the content industry, showcasing the strength and global appeal of Korean cultural exports. As K-content continues to thrive, these honorees exemplify the innovation and dedication driving the industry forward.
