Eighteen prominent architects and designers gathered this week in London to determine the winners of the prestigious Dezeen Awards 2025, in partnership with Bentley. The master jury convened at the One Hundred Shoreditch hotel to review an impressive 269 shortlisted entries selected from 4,300 projects spanning 89 countries worldwide. All winners will be announced at the highly anticipated Dezeen Awards 2025 party scheduled for November 25th at Exhibition White City in London.
The distinguished panel of judges included renowned architect Patty Hopkins alongside celebrated designers Richard Hutten and Sofia Lagerkvist. Other notable jury members who participated in finalizing the 49 award winners were designers Laurids Gallée and Helle Mardahl, as well as architects David Thulstrup and Pablo Pérez Palacios. The judging process was organized across specialized panels to ensure expertise in each category.
The architecture master jury panel featured Hopkins and Palacios working alongside architects Simon Allford, Sonali Rastogi, and designer Zoe Lowres to evaluate architectural submissions. For interior design categories, Thulstrup led a panel that included Linda Boronkay, Tatjana von Stein, and Ben Saltmer. The design categories were assessed by Joseph Grima and Benjamin Hubert, who worked with Gallée, Mardahl, and Lagerkvist to select winners across various design disciplines.
A dedicated sustainability panel comprising Ana Maria Duran Calisto, Samira Rathod, Richard Hutten, and Caroline Till met specifically to determine the winner of the Bentley Lighthouse Award. This special recognition, supported by Bentley, honors an individual whose work has demonstrated exceptional positive impact on social and environmental sustainability. Till noted the challenges facing the industry, stating that "in recent years we have seen numerous companies within the design industry scale back or revise their sustainability goals, citing factors such as economic pressure, supply chain disruption, and shifting political landscapes."
Despite these industry challenges, the sustainability judges praised designers for "taking a bold and unequivocal stance to keep sustainable innovation at the forefront of the design conversation." Rotterdam-based designer Gallée expressed enthusiasm about the current state of the industry, remarking, "it's exciting to see how the industry shares a trajectory that leaves a strong place for independent design, from individual makers to small teams."
Following the intensive judging day, an exclusive drinks reception and dinner took place in the One Hundred Room at One Hundred Shoreditch. The master jury was joined by former Dezeen Awards judges including Patrik Schumacher, Charlotte Taylor, and Rio Kobayashi for this special networking event. The gathering provided an opportunity for current and past judges to discuss design trends and celebrate excellence in the field.
The awards ceremony timeline begins with shortlist announcements scheduled between October 6-13, building anticipation for the main event. The Dezeen Awards party on November 25th will serve as the culmination of this year's program, where guests will be the first to discover the winners of prestigious project of the year awards across architecture, interiors, design, and sustainability categories. Additionally, this year's Designers of the Year will be unveiled at the ceremony – these honorees are nominated by Dezeen Awards judges and then shortlisted and selected by Dezeen's editorial team.
