South Korean actor Kwon Sang Woo is set to make his return to the big screen with the highly anticipated comic action film "Hitman 2," directed by Choi Won Sub. Distributor By4M Studio confirmed on December 10 that the film will be released in January 2025 and unveiled a striking launch poster featuring Kwon’s character.
"Hitman 2" continues the story of Jun, a legendary assassin turned webtoon artist, who skyrocketed to fame as a hit-making creator but quickly fell from grace, earning the title of "over-the-top writer." The plot thickens as a terrorist attack mimicking his latest webtoon leaves Jun wrongly accused of a crime, plunging him into chaos and danger.
The film serves as a sequel to the 2020 box office hit "Hitman," which drew over 2.4 million moviegoers and ranked as the fourth-highest-grossing South Korean film that year. Praised for its blend of slapstick comedy and high-octane action, the original film showcased Kwon Sang Woo’s impeccable comedic timing and dynamic action sequences.
The newly released poster captures Jun’s silhouette against the backdrop of a cityscape at night. His tense posture, exaggeratedly broad shoulders, and a pencil emitting a thin wisp of smoke in his hand hint at the movie's unique mix of humor and suspense.
A representative for the film teased an exhilarating sequel, saying, "Jun returns as a legendary assassin-turned-webtoon artist who evolves into a blockbuster hitmaker. Fans can look forward to even more powerful antics from 'Hitman 2.'"
The sequel brings back its original cast, including Kwon Sang Woo, Jung Joon Ho, Lee Yi Kyung, Hwang Woo Seul Hye, and Lee Ji Won. Additionally, Kim Sung Oh joins the ensemble, promising to add depth and energy to the already robust lineup.
Building on the success of the first film, "Hitman 2" aims to deliver bigger laughs, sharper action, and a more engaging storyline. The dynamic chemistry among the cast and the high-stakes plot make the sequel one of the most awaited films of the new year.
With the release date drawing closer, the film industry and fans alike are buzzing with excitement. As Kwon Sang Woo reprises his iconic role, "Hitman 2" is expected to dominate the box office, offering a perfect blend of humor and heart-pounding action to kick off 2025.
