Loreleï Neitthoffer, an artist known by her artistic name Lunaire, has published an original and sensitive guide that showcases the landscapes and atmosphere of the Cotentin Peninsula, particularly focusing on the Hague region in Normandy, France. The guide combines impressionistic photography with poetic texts to offer readers a unique way to discover or rediscover this distinctive coastal area.
The photographs in the guide capture the region's unique lighting and ever-changing weather patterns, accompanied by texts filled with both poetry and informative content. Despite moving to Lille in northern France several years ago—first for her studies and now working as an artistic director in design and graphics—Neitthoffer remains deeply connected to the Hague region where she grew up.
This personal project developed gradually over time as Neitthoffer pursued her education and career. "During my studies in Nantes, then in Lille, I loved talking about my region with my friends. I wanted photos that would make people feel the unstable weather, the mist, the sensation of rain, the atmosphere," she explained. Her goal was to create images that would convey the emotional essence of her homeland to those unfamiliar with the area.
The artist draws her inspiration from impressionism, working with blur and atmospheric effects to capture the spirit of the places she photographs. Her impressionistic approach helps viewers feel the mood and character of the landscape rather than simply seeing documentary images. The photographs featured in the guide were taken between May and November 2024, a period that allowed her to rediscover forgotten places, explore new locations, and refresh her perspective on familiar terrain.
This photographic journey enabled Neitthoffer to see her native region through new eyes, and she invites readers to embark on their own exploration of these landscapes. The guide serves not only as a visual feast but also as an invitation for others to walk the same paths and experience the unique atmosphere of the Cotentin Peninsula firsthand.
The photographs from the book will be exhibited this fall at the college in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, providing a broader audience the opportunity to experience Neitthoffer's artistic vision. This exhibition will also give the young artist a chance to focus on the Val de Saire region, potentially expanding her artistic exploration of Normandy's coastal areas.
For those interested in acquiring Neitthoffer's work, the guide and postcards featuring her photography under the name Lunaire are available at local bookstores including Bande à part and Les Schistes bleus in Cherbourg. This accessibility ensures that both locals and visitors can take home a piece of the region's atmospheric beauty as captured through her sensitive artistic lens.
