The Carson City Photo Club recently concluded its monthly photography competition featuring "Black and White Landscapes" as the September theme. Local photographers submitted their finest atmospheric outdoor shots, showcasing their artistic vision and technical skills in monochrome landscape photography. Judges selected five exceptional photographs from the submissions, with the competition resulting in a tie for third place and the addition of a special Winners Choice award. Jim Donato claimed first place with his evocative piece titled "Winters Rest," demonstrating masterful composition and tonal range. Carol Grenier secured second place with her striking image "Lone Tree in Winter," capturing the solitary beauty of winter landscapes.
The third-place tie featured two compelling works that equally impressed the judges. Dave Harrison earned recognition for his dramatic "Monument Valley" photograph, while MaryLou Schindler tied for third with her powerful "Spring Storm" composition. Additionally, Tom Keller received the Winners Choice award for his captivating "Convict Lake" image, highlighting the special recognition this photograph deserved beyond the traditional placement categories.
The Carson City Photo Club maintains an active schedule, meeting at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month throughout the year, with the exception of December. The club convenes in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, located at 911 East Musser Street. These regular gatherings provide opportunities for photographers to share their work, learn from one another, and participate in themed competitions.
Looking ahead, the club has announced that October's competition theme will be "Vintage, Over 30 Years Old," challenging photographers to explore subjects and scenes that reflect the passage of time.
