A striking new residential project has emerged on the western slopes of Lefkada, Greece, where Casa Condriada stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of cultural heritage and modern architectural innovation. Designed by LA^arc Architecture and completed in 2024, this 330-square-meter residence represents more than just a summer retreat—it serves as a living gallery where spatial experience and artistic expression seamlessly intertwine.
The project draws its inspiration from both the dramatic topography of its site and the boundless horizon of the Ionian Sea, where shifting light patterns animate the architecture throughout the day. The house's name, derived from the Venetian dialect word meaning "great stone," reflects both the geological identity of the site and the owners' cultural background, creating a meaningful connection between Venetian influences and Mediterranean traditions.
Lead architects Lila Yiamopoulou and Aimon Litinas conceived Casa Condriada as a manifesto of place—an architecture that remains deeply rooted in heritage while embracing liberation through modern refinement. The design team, including Senior Architect Maria Daliouri and Junior Architect Aggeliki Oikonomou, worked closely with specialized craftsmen to realize this vision. Notable collaborations included Theodore Psychoyos as the marble craftsman and Yiorgos Trichas for ceramics work.
The construction process involved partnerships with several premium manufacturers and suppliers, including DCW editions paris, Mpligiannis Service, Petrodomiki O.E., Rubinetterie Stella 1882, TCS Calce, Toscot, and various wooden panel specialists. The project was executed by gj constructions SOLDATOS, who also provided site management services throughout the construction phase.
Photographer George Messaritakis captured the completed residence, documenting how the architecture engages in deep dialogue with its cultural roots and contemporary design principles. The project stands as an example of how modern Greek architecture can honor traditional Mediterranean building practices while embracing innovative design approaches that respond to both site-specific conditions and contemporary living requirements.
