A photography contest launched to celebrate the 30th anniversary of visibility frames installed around the port and famous bell tower of Collioure has achieved extraordinary success this summer. The contest has attracted hundreds of submissions from tourists and visitors who were captivated by the unique photographic opportunity in this renowned seaside resort.
The overwhelming response comes as no surprise for the famous resort town in the Pyrénées-Orientales region, known as the city of painters and Fauvism, which was designated as France's "Favorite Village" in 2024. The contest celebrated three decades since the installation of special viewing frames that have become iconic features of the Mediterranean coastal town.
Marc-André De Figuères, known by his artistic name MA2F, is the visual artist behind what was originally considered an iconoclastic installation thirty years ago. He has received several hundred photographs from participants who embraced the creative challenge. The submissions came primarily from tourists who were drawn into the artistic game of capturing the perfect shot through the specially designed frames.
The contest's appeal extended far beyond France's borders, attracting international participants from across Europe. Visitors traveled from distant countries including Sweden, Norway, and Poland specifically to participate in this unique photographic experience. The diverse range of international submissions demonstrates the global appeal of Collioure's artistic heritage and the innovative visibility frame concept that has become synonymous with the town's cultural identity.
