Each year, the Salon de la Photo entrusts its official poster to a photographer whose sensitivity reflects the spirit of this prestigious photography event. Following Anne-Laure Étienne in 2024, Claire Guarry has been chosen to create the image for the 2025 edition, scheduled for October 9-12 at the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris. Her poster celebrates transmission, the gentleness of daily life, and the beauty of the photographic gesture.
The poster features a familiar scene bathed in warm, raking light. A man and child face each other, both adopting the posture of photographers. The man frames the scene with his bare hands, while the child, camera in hand, captures the moment. The scene is illuminated by low, warm light that sculpts volumes and divides the image into colored planes of olive green, off-white, and pale yellow. The rigorously balanced composition almost evokes a cinema set.
This intimate scene was photographed in California, featuring Guarry's partner and son as models. The photographer, who has lived in San Francisco for several years, created this image in one of those neighborhoods where pastel facades mix with strong shadows when the sun sits low in the sky. This urban setting becomes an intimate space - a visual playground where dialogue between generations unfolds.
The photograph resulted from close collaboration between the photographer and the Salon de la Photo's communications team. Here, the intimate photographic gesture becomes symbolic. The father-son dialogue depicted echoes that between photographer and subject, between gaze and light. It serves as a clear metaphor for a Salon that aims to be a space for creation, sharing, and transmission.
In an interview with Polka Magazine, Guarry revealed the genesis of this photograph: "I often take personal photos about family life and for children's fashion." She explained that it was essential to include a camera in the image, with someone in the act of photographing. She added, "I love the idea of transmission: the father makes a gesture with his hands to guide the child's framing, but the one who decides and triggers the shot is the child. Reversing roles was something I had in mind from the beginning."
For layout purposes, and because the original photo adopted a very tight framing, the image was extended using software with a generative fill function, similar to Photoshop's capabilities. This sensitive simplicity can be compared to certain previous Salon posters, notably the 2024 poster by Anne-Laure Étienne, which also featured poetic and colorful aspects.
