According to officials at the Nortrup municipal office, there are three separate graffiti locations throughout the town. Two of the messages were spray-painted on State Road 74, while a third appears on Mittelstraße, all of which fall under the jurisdiction of Osnabrück County. The most prominent graffiti, reading "Cyber Mobbing," was sprayed in white-gray paint on the roadway near the town's water castle, which marks the entrance to Nortrup from the direction of Ankum.
At the opposite end of town, near the Kemper meat processing factory that marks the exit toward Menslage, someone has painted the words "Verlogene Ratten" (Lying Rats) on the street surface. The third inscription, "Heuchler" (Hypocrite), can be found on Mittelstraße, a street that despite its name suggesting a central location, actually encompasses part of the northern section of town.
Adding to the mystery is what appears to be a tag or signature found on an oak tree near the water castle. The letters "Cyb" are painted vertically in bright green-yellow fluorescent paint on the tree trunk. However, this particular marking raises questions among local observers, as experienced graffiti artists typically avoid damaging trees with paint, making this an unusual choice for a committed street artist.
The graffiti first appeared in early September, according to municipal records. Local authorities promptly reported the vandalism to the Fürstenau road maintenance department and Osnabrück County, the agencies responsible for maintaining these particular roads. However, these authorities apparently saw no immediate need for action and have left the inscriptions untouched.
When contacted about the matter, a police spokesperson indicated that law enforcement has no record of reports concerning these particular graffiti incidents.
