In a highly-anticipated move, K-pop powerhouse Monsta X is set to unveil its first subunit group, "Shownu X Hyungwon," with the release of their EP "The Unseen" on Tuesday. Comprising the talented members Shownu and Hyungwon, the duo delves into the intricacies of the "self" as seen through the eyes of others in their latest album.
"The Unseen" showcases Monsta X's signature music style, delving into diverse facets of love through five mesmerizing tracks: "Love Me A Little," "Love Therapy," "Roll With Me," "Play Me," and "Slow Dance."
Adding a new dimension to their musical prowess, both Shownu and Hyungwon have expanded their individual capacities on this album. Hyungwon, celebrated as one of the band's producing trio alongside Joohoney and I.M, demonstrates his flair as a producer with two self-made songs, the title track "Love Me A Little" and the B-side score "Roll With Me."
In recent years, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter has diversified his musical repertoire, contributing to numerous Monsta X hits, including "Lone Ranger," "Where Is This Love," "Nobody Else," "Mercy," "Secrets," and "Wildfire," as well as bandmate Kihyun's solo song "Bad Liar."
Meanwhile, Shownu, an illustrious performer in the K-pop scene, who recently served as a judge on the dance competition show "Street Woman Fighter," takes the lead in crafting the choreography for "Love Me A Little." Collaborating with Freemind, the renowned dance crew behind Monsta X's iconic choreographies, such as "Rush Hour," "Gambler," "Alligator," and "Dramarama," the 31-year-old showcases his dance prowess once again.
Monsta X, renowned for their aggressive and performance-oriented music style, has cultivated a devoted global fanbase since their debut in 2015, driven by the bandmates' impressive vocal talents and exceptional producing skills.
The EP "The Unseen" holds special significance for Monsta X fans as it marks the end of Shownu's hiatus due to his military service. After completing his obligatory duty, the 31-year-old singer was discharged in April, making his return as a performer after two years since the release of Monsta X's special single, "Kiss Or Death," in July 2021.
To celebrate the debut of "Shownu X Hyungwon," the dynamic duo will host a live talk show, "'The Unseen' Release Talk Live," on the band's official YouTube channel at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. As excitement mounts among fans, Monsta X's first subunit is poised to make a memorable impact on the K-pop scene, continuing to solidify their status as one of the genre's most influential groups.
