The city of Cheonan has become a global hub for dance enthusiasts as the 2025 Cheonan World Dance Festival launched with spectacular performances and unprecedented international participation. The five-day cultural celebration kicked off at Cheonan Sports Complex in South Chungcheong Province, featuring dancers and performers from around the world.

Participating teams represent diverse regions including Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, South Gyeongsang Province, Daejeon, and Busan, with international entries from Japan and Taiwan adding to the competitive field.
The International Dance Competition showcases exceptional talent from 24 teams representing 23 countries across five continents. Notable participants include a Bulgarian troupe with an impressive 85-year history, a Chilean team that has delivered more than 5,500 performances across 49 countries, and a Philippine troupe that earned a silver medal at the 2017 festival, demonstrating the high caliber of international participation.
Street dance enthusiasts will be particularly drawn to the expanded Cheonan International Street Dance Championship, which now features 16 groups from 16 different countries. This year's street dance program introduces exciting new elements including continental battles, a breaking world final, and continental qualifiers, reflecting the growing global popularity of urban dance forms.
One of the festival's most anticipated events is the signature Street Dance Parade, scheduled for Friday. The parade will traverse a 550-meter route from Bangjuk-an Intersection to Terminal Intersection in downtown Cheonan, featuring 37 teams comprised of 22 international groups, 12 Korean teams, and three non-competitive groups, involving approximately 2,000 dancers. A innovative continental street dance battle will take place during the parade, showcasing performers from the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and the Americas.
The festival also introduces several new and exciting programs this year. The debut of the Pump It Up World Championship marks a significant addition, based on the popular arcade game that has gained recognition as an official esport. Top international players will compete in challenging rhythm and step competitions, bridging the gap between gaming and physical performance.
Professional development and education remain key components of the festival through various workshops covering street dance, traditional dance, and K-pop choreography. Additional entertainment includes the Korea Dance Awards honoring professional dancers, the National Sports Dance Championship, and special themed events such as the 2000s-themed Cheonan Retro Party and DANCEFLEX: EDM Heung Night, featuring performances by popular influencer DJs and K-EDM artists.
Beyond the performances and competitions, the festival serves as an important economic driver for the local community.
