FNC Entertainment's highly anticipated boy band, Hi-Fi Un!corn, made their long-awaited debut on Monday with their debut single, "Over the Rainbow." With the aim of bringing comfort to listeners through their music in diverse languages, the five-member group is poised to captivate audiences both domestically and internationally. During a press conference held in Seoul to commemorate their debut, Taemin of Hi-Fi Un!corn expressed a mix of nerves and excitement, emphasizing their readiness to face the public.
Hi-Fi Un!corn, comprised of Taemin, Shuto, Hyunyul, Kiyoon, and Min, emerged as the final winners of SBS' acclaimed band audition TV program, "The Idol Band: Boy's Battle." Explaining the significance behind the band's name, Hyunyul shared their aspiration to become a unicorn of this generation, symbolizing the creation of high-quality music that resonates with their audience.
The band's debut single, "Over the Rainbow," was produced by none other than Jung Yong-hwa, leader and vocalist of the renowned Korean boy band CN Blue. Jung, who also attended the press conference to show his support for the rookies, expressed his motivation for producing the single, citing his firsthand experience as a judge during the audition program. Witnessing the band's growth and their ability to overcome challenges, Jung believed he could best convey their unique identity through the song.
Inspired by a vivid rainbow sighted in Hawaii after a lengthy drive through heavy rain, Jung shared the profound message embedded within the single. "The message of the single is that at the end of hardships, good days will come just like a rainbow after rain," he revealed. Kiyoon expressed the band's immediate connection to the song, praising its perfect alignment with their vibrant and joyful energy. The members were also deeply moved by the poetic lyrics that accompanied the melodic composition.
"Over the Rainbow" was released in both Korean and Japanese versions, highlighting Hi-Fi Un!corn's commitment to cater to a diverse fan base in both Korea and Japan. The band plans to promote their debut single through busking performances and appearances on local TV and radio programs in both countries.
Hi-Fi Un!corn's strength lies in the exceptional talents of its members, boasting skilled vocalists and instrumentalists who are adept at composing music and writing lyrics. Hyunyul articulated the band's core aspiration, stating, "We wanted to make music that can comfort listeners. We've already composed some songs, and we hope to have the opportunity to release them in the future."
