The initiative, known as the “So Amazing Onew’s BD Project JP,” has been an annual tradition since 2017, with fans consistently contributing wells for Onew's birthday celebration. This year's well, located in a Cambodian elementary school, is intended to provide drinking water for students and nearby residents.
World Share, the non-governmental organization overseeing the project, manages children's group homes, facilitates international child sponsorships, improves access to clean water, provides emergency relief, and dispatches volunteer groups to nearly 30 countries worldwide.
A fan participating in the donation expressed gratitude for Onew and SHINee's dedication over their 15-year career in Korea and 11-year tenure in Japan. The fan highlighted the reciprocal relationship between the artist and fans, expressing a desire to contribute to a region in need as a way of sharing the strength and happiness derived from the artist-fan connection.
