The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) and SM Entertainment's classical label, SM Classics, have partnered once again for the orchestral rendition of Red Velvet's hit song "Psycho," released on Friday.
This collaboration began in June 2020, marking a pioneering effort to merge classical music with K-pop. Over the years, they have presented orchestral adaptations of several iconic K-pop tracks, including Red Velvet's "Red Flavor" and SHINee Jonghyun's "End of a Day" in 2020, Red Velvet's "Feel My Rhythm" and aespa's "Black Mamba" in 2022, and most recently, Girls' Generation's "Into The New World" and EXO's "Growl" in 2023.
The orchestral version of "Psycho" adds to this collaboration, offering a new interpretation of K-pop's popular hits through classical music. Infused with orchestral arrangements that highlight the song's melodies, the rendition aims to provide listeners with a symphonic experience that enhances the emotional depth of the original track.
Notably, the incorporation of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 brings a unique charm to the arrangement, blending classical motifs with contemporary beats.
Both the SPO and SM Classics have expressed their commitment to pushing the boundaries of cross-genre collaboration, promising more innovative projects in the future.
