Various Associates has created an ecological sanctuary along the Zhujia River in Wuhan's Jiangan District that redefines the relationship between agriculture, leisure, and community engagement. LuxeIsland Farm serves as the centerpiece of the massive 230,000-square-meter LUXEOASIS development, occupying a strategic position between northern hillsides and a southern pier. The architecture studio was commissioned to design both the buildings and interiors, treating the project as a spatial experiment in how contemporary design can foster environmental integration and social interaction. Through a masterplan organized around circular pathways and embedded structures, the farm demonstrates how rural landscapes can accommodate sophisticated programming without sacrificing ecological sensitivity.
The farm's layout connects animal enclosures, creative workshops, retail spaces, and dining areas through a continuous circular rhythm that encourages exploration and discovery. New structures are carefully embedded within the existing terrain, creating a harmonious relationship between built form and natural topography. Volumetric masses that resemble scattered stones or meteorites emerge organically from the ground, interwoven with misting systems and native vegetation. Semi-submerged animal enclosures feature green roofs that minimize visual impact while enhancing the immersive landscape experience.
