Kwon Ji-an’s 10th solo exhibition ‘Humming-paradise’ is being held at the flagship store of Vista Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul. The exhibition will be held for two months from July 13th to September 13th.

Kwon Ji-an is a famous person called an arttainer in Korea, and the word ‘arttainer’ is a combination of art and entertainment. In other words, an arttainer refers to an entertainer who engages in artistic activities such as painting, photography, or writing. She has been active as a famous singer in Korea for a long time under the name ‘Solbi’.

“The power of art lies in allowing artists, viewers, and society to look back on themselves. I prepared this exhibition with the hope that my story could be a message that gives hope and overcome to those in need.” Kwon said.

In this Kwon’s solo exhibition, four series of her works(Apple, Humming, Landscape, and Cake) and a total of 50 works will be presented.

The Apple series contains the artist's wish for a cyber utopia against cyber violence. As she worked as an artist, there were often people criticizing her or mocking her in cyberspace.

“Do you know how to draw apples?” This is a comment directed to Kwon.

She could have been discouraged by such ridicule, but she turned this experience into a work of art. The Apple series is just that. In the hope of a more healthy communication, Kwon wittily responded to malicious commenters with an apple font and an apple sculpture of “This is for you”.

“The longing and pain for my father and maternal grandmother, who passed away last year, is a story of transcending language with ‘humming’ the limits that could not be expressed in words or words. At the time, when I could not even write lyrics, I moved my heart to painting with humming, and expressed it on canvas with my own language and code.” Said Kwon.

“When I couldn't show my father's favorite flower art, I couldn't draw landscapes for a while. Now, in order to be happy, I put it in a light hum and bright color. This is different from previous work. ” She explained to the reporter,.

The new Humming Letter series combines 'humming' and 'landscape'. In the garden of Giverny Monet in France, she improvised the expression of emotions she felt as the wind brushed against it with her hand-drawn technique. In this work, the thickly painted matiere and formative language brightly show the process of overcoming.

Flowers are main character of it. Stems are not visible in detail. In fact, she is standing through the solid stem that supports her. Based on her belief in herself, she has a strong vitality that holds up and rises up and finally blooms, resembling herself. Through this work, she conveyed the message that she wants her inner self to stand upright like a solid stem.

She suffered from malicious comments by category due to a misunderstanding about the cake she was going to give to her nephew in 2020. The color was removed from the cake that lost the meaning of the celebration. The cake series contains the hope of re-lighting the fire through burning candles. Kwon wanted to show how she overcame pain and sorrow with this ‘Humming paradise.’

Kwon won the ‘2021 Barcelona International Art Award (The Grand Artist at the ‘Premi Internacional d’Art de Barcelona·PIAB21). The Apple series has already received favorable reviews at the US invitation exhibition in May.
