Popular singer-actor Yim Si-wan is set to launch his solo music career next month with the release of his debut extended play album titled "The Reason." His talent agency SMArt announced on Friday that the highly anticipated solo project will showcase a completely new artistic side of the versatile performer.
The five-track EP is scheduled for release on December 5th and will feature songs with varied musical moods and styles. The album's lead single shares the same title as the EP, though SMArt has not yet revealed additional details about the specific musical direction or collaborating artists involved in the project.
Yim Si-wan first entered the entertainment industry as a member of the K-pop boy band ZE:A, making his debut in January 2010. Since then, he has successfully transitioned into acting and built an impressive and diverse career in both television dramas and major motion pictures. His notable acting credits include his breakthrough role in the critically acclaimed film "The Attorney" in 2013 and his memorable performance in the beloved workplace drama "Misaeng: Incomplete Life" in 2014.
More recently, Yim has gained international recognition for his role in Netflix's global phenomenon "Squid Game." He appeared in the show's second season, which premiered in 2024, and is set to return for the upcoming third season scheduled for release in 2025. This exposure has significantly expanded his fanbase beyond South Korea to international audiences.
According to his agency SMArt, the upcoming solo album represents a personal artistic milestone for Yim Si-wan. The company stated that "The Reason" captures Yim's previously unreleased musical tastes and showcases his delicate artistic sensibility, promising to offer listeners an entirely new perspective on him as a solo artist. This debut marks his return to music after focusing primarily on his acting career for several years.
