"12.12: The Day" Becomes Sixth Highest-Selling Korean Film in History

The historical film "12.12: The Day" has achieved the status of the sixth highest-selling Korean film of all time, according to distributor Plus M Entertainment. As of the latest data, the movie has attracted 12,986,918 moviegoers, surpassing the previous record held by the 2012 film "The Thieves," which had 12,984,701 admissions, according to the Korean Film Council's ticketing network.

Notably, "12.12: The Day" secures the ninth position in the overall all-time box office chart for ticket sales in Korea, encompassing both domestic and foreign films.

Directed by Kim Sung-su, the film was released on November 22, 2023, and centers around the nine hours during the historic day of December 12, 1979, when a military coup d'état was imminent in Seoul. The cast includes Hwang Jung-min and Jung Woo-sung, portraying fictionalized versions of former president Chun Doo Hwan and a military leader opposing him.

"12.12: The Day" achieved the milestone of being the second film in 2023 to surpass 10 million ticket sales, following "The Roundup: No Way Out."
