On Tuesday, K-pop sensation BTS marked a significant milestone as Jimin and Jungkook commenced their mandatory military service. With their enlistment, all seven members of the globally renowned boy band are set to fulfill this obligation required of all able-bodied South Korean men.

Particularly drawing attention is V's expressed interest in joining the 35th Special Mission Battalion, a counterterrorism unit under the Capital Defense Command responsible for defending Seoul. The soon-to-be 28-year-old has shared his aspiration with fans, emphasizing his desire to challenge himself and assuring them of his commitment to safety.

Concerns among fans stem from the unit's reputation for rigorous training, considering its crucial role in counter-terrorism operations in Seoul. The 35th Battalion is one of the five military units designated as counter-terrorism forces by South Korean law, requiring soldiers to possess exceptional physical prowess, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat skills, and expertise in handling extreme situations.

Members of the battalion are often categorized as "special warriors," a rank earned through excellence in physical and combat tests. Notably, both Jin and J-Hope, BTS members who commenced military duty ahead of V, have already achieved the special warrior rank, showcasing the group's capability to meet military standards.

While V's interest in joining the special forces unit is unusual for a celebrity, it's not unprecedented. Singer Oh Jong-hyuk is among the rare cases, having served in the ROK Marine Corps Reconnaissance Unit.
