Shin Jeong Chul Redefines Formative Beauty Through Lines

Published April 29, 2023 05:29 PM

Shin Jeong Chul, the Managing Director at TUBAn, the production company of the globally recognized animation "LARVA," has captured the art world with his unique graphic designs. With over two decades of experience in honing his design sense and formative beauty, Shin has presented his works through lines that express his artistic vision.

Shin pursued his education at the Graduate School of Industrial Art at the Hongik University College of Art and Design, where he learned the basics of formative elements. He has also lectured at several universities and held five solo exhibitions as a working artist.

In a recent interview with SayArt, Shin spoke about his creative process, stating, "Dots gather to become lines, and lines come together to create planes, which are the most basic formative elements. I think they provide many visual clues and methodologies depending on your thoughts. Among these formative elements, I reinterpret the lines and create works."

Shin's artistic vision is all about creating formative beauty by discovering new charms through the overlapping and crossing of lines. He creates intricate forms by making lines that are entangled in various shapes meet to create a single silhouette. He expresses the complexity of the details of parts and the simplicity of the overall form in his work. Shin prefers to stay away from overly subjective subjects and methods of expression. When the audience sees his work, he strives to create a piece that can immediately grasp the intention of his work without much effort.

Shin's dream is to become an artist who continues to create for a long time, even after becoming a gray-haired old man. When asked about his most memorable project so far, he said, "My happiest memory was that my work was selected on the cover of the December 2010 'DesignNet' issue." His work has also been selected for the cover of several other publications.
