The highly anticipated Korean premiere of the documentary film "Ennio: The Maestro" is set to take place on Wednesday evening at the prestigious Seoul Art Cinema. The event is part of Fare Cinema, a global initiative aimed at promoting Italian films around the world. Co-hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul and Jinjin Pictures, the local distributor of the film, the premiere will pay tribute to the remarkable legacy of Ennio Morricone, the revered Italian composer who passed away on July 6, 2020. Directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, the Academy Award-winning director of the 1988 classic "Cinema Paradiso," the film features exclusive interviews with Morricone, directors, screenwriters, musicians, songwriters, and critics who had the privilege of collaborating with the legendary composer.
As guests gather at the reception preceding the screening, attendees will be treated to a special musical performance by guitarist Kim You-jung. Kim will showcase enchanting melodies composed by Ennio Morricone, drawing from iconic soundtracks such as "Cinema Paradiso," "Love Affair," "The Legend of 1900," and "The Mission." Rita Andreetti, a renowned Italian cinema critic, will provide an introduction to the documentary film in English, with Korean interpretation provided during the screening.
Fare Cinema, an annual event organized by Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, serves as a platform to introduce a diverse range of Italian films to audiences worldwide. In light of the ongoing pandemic, this year's event has adopted a hybrid format, allowing for both offline and online screenings. Following its premiere, "Ennio: The Maestro" is scheduled to release in local theaters on July 5, offering audiences in South Korea the opportunity to immerse themselves in the exceptional journey of Ennio Morricone's life and music.
The Korean premiere of "Ennio: The Maestro" is a testament to the enduring influence of Italian cinema and the profound impact of Morricone's musical genius. This event signifies a celebration of art, culture, and the timeless legacy of one of the greatest composers in film history.
