From the iconic Lollapalooza in Chicago to Tokyo's electrifying Summer Sonic 2023, the dynamic K-pop sensation NewJeans has been setting the global festival circuit ablaze.
Comprising five exceptionally talented members — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein — NewJeans burst onto the music scene in 2022, captivating audiences across the globe in just a year.
Although their official debut in Japan is pending, NewJeans secured a coveted spot on the main stage at the highly acclaimed Summer Sonic 2023. The festival, held at Tokyo's Zozo Marine Stadium on August 19, saw the girl group take the stage at noon, drawing an exuberant crowd of 30,000 devoted fans.
Commencing their performance with crowd-favorite tracks "Ditto" and "OMG," NewJeans expressed their excitement, stating, "This marks our debut at Summer Sonic, and we're truly exhilarated." The group's shared enthusiasm resonated with the audience: "Our journey to this moment has been a testament to our hard work. So, let's revel in this extraordinary day together and forge unforgettable memories."
The stage was ignited with a dazzling array of hits from NewJeans' debut album, including chart-toppers like "Cookie," "Attention," and "Hype Boy." The group maintained their infectious energy as they seamlessly transitioned to tracks from their second mini-album, "Get Up," delivering an enthralling performance comprising 11 songs in a 40-minute set.
The fans, affectionately known as "Bunnies," fervently cheered on their idols, brandishing their official group light sticks known as "Binky Bong," and holding aloft supportive placards.
Prior to their Tokyo triumph, NewJeans set the stage ablaze in Chicago on August 3.
The group scripted history by becoming the first-ever K-pop girl group to grace the Lollapalooza stage in Grant Park. Taking the spotlight at 5 p.m. (local time), they shared the stage with none other than pop sensation Billie Eilish, who later headlined the event.
During their performance, NewJeans electrified the audience with an energetic 45-minute set featuring 12 songs. Their setlist encompassed tracks from their recently acclaimed "Get Up" album, which had just ascended to the summit of the Billboard 200 chart a day prior.
The fervor carried beyond the festival grounds as the hashtag "#LOLLAJEANS" surged to second place among Twitter's trending topics in the U.S., a testament to the group's rapidly expanding global influence.
