A new residence designed by SHOVK Studio sits on a steep, rocky slope above the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal. Built from local stone and warm timber, the house follows the natural contours of the land and keeps wide, unobstructed views of the water.
The layout places four bedrooms, a large living area, a library and an ocean-facing terrace across two simple levels. Double-height ceilings and carefully placed skylights pull daylight deep into the plan, while floor-to-ceiling glass panels erase the boundary between inside and outside. Inside, gray marble counters, white glossy fixtures and soft textiles create a calm, neutral backdrop for built-in planters and ocean vistas.
SHOVK relied on a restrained palette of concrete, native stone and wood to anchor the structure to its cliffside site. The result is a quiet, low-impact home that celebrates the coastal landscape without competing with it.
