Simple Architecture has completed the Irrawaddy Flower Garden Classroom Buildings, a new educational facility located in Mae Sot, Thailand. The project, finished in 2025, spans 148 square meters and represents a collaborative effort between multiple organizations including Help Without Frontiers Thailand and socialarchitecture e.V.
The classroom buildings were designed under the leadership of architect Jan Glasmeier, who served as the lead architect for the project. The construction involved both local workers and international volunteers, demonstrating a community-based approach to architectural development. Local builders included Pa Gee, Ban Yah, Cha Paw, Cha Moo, Eh Chu, and Zo Eh for the first project phase, with additional team members joining for the second phase.
Volunteers from various backgrounds contributed to the construction process, including participants such as Elisa Bisek, Tami Forgo, Vincent Georg, Leo Huang, and others. The project also engaged students from international schools in Bangkok, with pupils from Harrows International School participating in the first project workshop and students from St. Andrews International School contributing to the second phase.
The project utilized wood as the primary construction material, reflecting sustainable building practices appropriate for the local climate and context. Photography of the completed buildings was captured by multiple photographers including Jan Glasmeier, Leo Huang, Jonathan Wiedemann, and others, documenting the architectural achievement.
The Irrawaddy Flower Garden Classroom Buildings represent an important addition to educational infrastructure in Mae Sot, a border town in Thailand. The project demonstrates how international collaboration and community engagement can create meaningful architectural solutions for educational needs in developing regions.
