"Alienoid," directed by Choi Dong-hoon, revolved around time-traveling swordsmen, individuals with superpowers, and aliens trapped in human bodies entangled in a battle involving a holy sword. Despite a reported production cost of 33 billion won ($25 million), the film attracted 1.5 million theatergoers in 2022.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the first installment, Ryu revealed that Director Choi assumed responsibility for its outcome and directed the second part with a heightened sense of accountability. Ryu expressed confidence that the combined efforts of the cast and crew would be evident in "Alienoid 2," offering a more satisfying experience for the audience.
In "Alienoid 2," Ryu portrays Mureuk, a swordsman and Taoist central to the narrative. He emphasized the character's growth throughout the story, drawing parallels with his own evolving perspective on the importance of both talent and effort in personal development.
Collaborating with Kim Tae-ri, Ryu's character develops a close bond, potentially romantic, adding a layer of complexity to the storyline. The actor praised Kim for her acting prowess and highlighted their close real-life relationship, cultivated during their collaboration in the 2018 film "Little Forest."
