A new memorial sculpture called 'SeelenSchätze' (Soul Treasures) was unveiled in Bad Münstereifel on Thursday evening to ensure the devastating 2021 flood disaster is not forgotten. The three-meter-tall steel stele was created by an artist from Zülpich and now stands at the corner of Kölner Straße and Schleidtalstraße.
The city of Bad Münstereifel describes the sculpture as a place of remembrance and commemoration for those affected by the catastrophic flooding. The artwork serves as a permanent reminder of the tragedy that struck the region and the community's resilience in its aftermath.
The memorial features a particularly symbolic design element that connects two locations within the city. The piece of steel from which the stele was cut out has been placed as a counterpart at Große Bleiche, creating a meaningful connection between both elements. This design choice emphasizes the widespread impact of the flood across different areas of the community.
The official presentation of the sculpture took place on Thursday, September 25th, at 5:00 PM, with all citizens cordially invited to attend the unveiling ceremony. The public gathering provided an opportunity for residents to come together and collectively remember the flood catastrophe that forever changed their community.
