The Korean occult thriller "The Black Nuns" has officially surpassed 1 million viewers in just six days, making it one of the fastest-grossing films of the Lunar New Year season. According to the Korean Film Council’s (KOFIC) Integrated Ticketing System, the milestone was reached on January 29 at 3:46 PM (KST).

Benefiting from the Lunar New Year holiday rush, the film achieved the 1 million mark two days faster than its primary competitor, "Hitman 2," which took eight days to reach the same number.

Beyond Korea, "The Black Nuns" has also been making waves internationally. In Indonesia, where it was released simultaneously, the film topped the local box office for five consecutive days, drawing a cumulative audience of 569,690 viewers. This makes it the highest-grossing Korean film within the first five days of release in Indonesia, further highlighting its global appeal.

Directed by Kwon Hyuk Jae, "The Black Nuns" is a spin-off of the 2015 hit "The Priests" by Jang Jae Hyun. The film follows a group of individuals who risk everything to perform a forbidden exorcism ritual in a desperate attempt to save a boy possessed by a powerful demonic force.

The film also marks Song Hye Kyo’s first-ever venture into the occult genre, drawing significant attention for her portrayal of Sister Yunia. Her performance, balancing deep emotional sincerity and a distinctive exorcism approach, has received widespread praise. In particular, her dynamic partnership with Jeon Yeo Been, who plays Sister Michaela, has been noted for adding depth and emotional weight to the story.

With its strong box office momentum in both domestic and international markets, "The Black Nuns" is emerging as one of the most significant horror-thrillers of the year. Industry insiders are closely watching how far the film’s success can extend as it continues to draw audiences worldwide.
