Photographer Grégory Pol's stunning images of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon are making their way around the world once again, with a new exhibition opening Friday, October 10, 2025, in Shenzhen, China. Over the past year, Pol's photographs of the French archipelago have been displayed six times across China, capturing international attention and raising environmental awareness through artistic expression.
Pol, a former military officer who served aboard the Fulmar in the early 2010s, has not returned to the Saint-Pierre and Miquelon archipelago in over four years. Despite his physical absence, the artist maintains a strong connection to the islands through his captivating photographs of Arctic hares, snowy owls, and breathtaking landscapes that he shares with audiences worldwide. His dedication to showcasing the region's natural beauty has turned into a successful global mission.
The latest exhibition, titled "North and White," will be held in Shenzhen, a Chinese metropolis with a population of 18 million inhabitants. While Pol has never physically visited China, his artwork has become well-known there through five previous exhibitions. These showcases are the result of collaborative efforts between the French Embassy and the French Institute, demonstrating the cultural bridge that art can create between nations.
The current exhibition features twenty photographs, with half specifically highlighting scenes from the Saint-Pierre and Miquelon archipelago. "The objective of the event is to use the beauty of the photographs to raise visitors' awareness about environmental causes and biodiversity," Pol explained with conviction. His evolving exhibition has proven to be remarkably successful in attracting attention and educating viewers about environmental conservation.
Pol's career transformation from military service to photographer and expedition guide represents an inspiring professional journey. "I'm happy, it's working, the photographs have been traveling abroad for several years now and it's been a success," he said, reflecting on his artistic achievements. His work demonstrates how personal passion can evolve into meaningful global impact.
Looking ahead, Pol has ambitious travel plans that will take him across multiple continents. This Sunday, the photographer will fly to South Africa, followed by upcoming travels and missions that are expected to take him to Namibia and the United States. When asked about future plans, he expressed hope that one day his journey might bring him back to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, completing a full circle in his artistic odyssey.
