SEOUL, South Korea — The popular 2011 KBS drama "Dream High" is set to hit the stage next month as a musical adaptation, featuring a star-studded cast of K-pop idols.

Starring Bae Suzy and Kim Soo-hyun, the original drama followed the lives of high school students who dreamed of becoming K-pop stars. It was a hit in terms of viewership ratings, with the final episode scoring a 17.2 percent rating nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea.

The upcoming theatrical show, produced by Artone Company, will depict the characters' lives 10 years after graduation and how they continue to pursue their dreams through music and dance.

"Musical numbers and dance will be the core elements of 'Dream High,'" said the producer on Monday.

The musical boasts a plethora of K-pop stars, including Lee Seung-hoon from WINNER, Yoo Tae-yang from SF9, and Park Gyu-ri from KARA. The acclaimed choreographer Choi Young-joon, known for his work on Mnet's 2022 dance competition show "Street Man Fighter," will direct the choreography.

"Dancers specializing in diverse genres ranging from hip-hop to locking have been cast," added Artone.

The highly-anticipated musical adaptation of "Dream High" is scheduled to run from May 13 to July 23 at the Kwanglim Arts Center in southern Seoul's Gangnam District.
