The exhibition to be introduced today was hosted by NMMC and sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company. This exhibition is part of the Hyundai Motor Series, which has been held every year since 2014 by selecting one team of promoting artists.
This year's exhibition is “Kinetic Art” Little Ark <작은방주> by CHOE U-RAM.
In this exhibition, about 50 pieces are on display, including installations, sculptures, and drawings that contain concerns about human existence and coexistence.
- Round Table, Black Birds The first thing that draws attention is One head floats above a round table supported by 18 headless straw bodies, while three blackbirds watch the movements below in the sky. When 18 headless straw bodies get up on their knees to grab heads, the heads roll farther. Through this paradoxical appearance, artists are talking about competition and struggle that cannot be escaped. Watching the competition, the rotating black bird conveys a sense of tension.
- One This work is an installation of flowers falling and blooming. The material is very unique. This is made of Tyvek fiber, a protective clothing worn by medical staff at the corona treatment site. The work was created to give comfort and condolences to the pain of modern people suffering from a pandemic. - Red The configuration is the same. The work is made in red, which means life, to explain the cycle of life. The hot power and energy that red emits is very addictive and overwhelming.
- Infinite Space In reality, it is a very short cylinder, but it is a work that expresses the endless desire of humans by inducing optical illusions with a double-structured mirror. Looking at it, it feels like being sucked into space.
- Little Ark The size of , the representative work, is 12m in length and 2.1m in height. This ark creates a sailing performance with 70 oars dancing every hour. Through the ark, a symbol of salvation, the artist is raising questions about where humanity is headed.
- Angel An angel praying for the sailing of a 24k gold-plated ship. However, the drooping shadows lead to various interpretations.
- Exit In the video, a door opens and opens again, and a new door opens again and it feels like moving somewhere. This work raises the question of where we are headed after the coronavirus.
- design drawing The 36 works using embossing techniques and monotones show the artist's passion for exhibiting.
- Chakra Lamp Chakra means 'wheel' in Sanskrit. A pair of are very elaborately crafted, and the light shining inside the metal plate radiates energy to the surroundings. We are currently experiencing an unprecedented crisis called the Corona Pandemic, and even the survival of mankind is threatened. This exhibition is under the title of a little ark to express the area of loss of direction. The exhibition “a little ark”, gives a moving impression.
