Kiaf PLUS, opened for the first time.

Kiaf PLUS, which showcases works of various art genres such as digital art and media art, NFT, opened at SECTEC in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul at 3 pm on September 1.


Kiaf PLUS, which is held for the first time this year, has allowed 73 galleries from 11 countries to participate. A few famous galleries also participated, but most of them are newly established galleries less than 5 years old, and their brilliant projects stand out.

The official opening ceremony started at 3pm. Celebrities in the Korean art world, such as Hwang Dalseung, president of the Korea Gallery Association, Yoon Bum-mo, director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the lead sponsor, Jang Hyun Kook, CEO of Wemade, took the place.

Jang Hyun Kook, CEO of 'Wemade' said in a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of 'Kiaf Seoul 2022', "Congratulations on the opening of Kiaf Seoul and Kiaf PLUS. I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to sponsor a meaningful event." . In that one of Kiaf PLUS’ exhibition directions is digital art, WeMade's participation in the event is meaningful in many ways.

Kiaf PLUS is being held simultaneously in three exhibition halls on the first floor of SETEC. Among them, Elite Apes, the largest IP holder of BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club), and BAGC (Bored Ape Golf Club) Korea NFT, the first project of ALTAVA GROUP, a fashion metaverse company, exhibited in Hall 2 are enough to catch the attention of the audience. Most of the visitors to this hall were the MZ generation, and they were quickly collecting works of less than 5 million won.


There was also a booth that drew attention by producing small works aimed at the MZ generation. Chung Seung-Hee, CEO of Dohing Art, said, “For this art fair, we discussed with artists and produced various small works.”

Kiaf PLUS is not just about emerging galleries and up-and-coming artists. Gallery Choi, which opened in Hall A, is by far the best among them. Choi brought to the forefront artists with proven skills, including Lee, Yerim, Yoon Byung Woon, YI YI Jeong-Eun, Chung Young-Hwan, Ki Sook Lee, Lee Ho Ryon.

Gallery Joeun, located in Hall A, is bringing to the forefront artists such as Kim Kang-yong, who are already famous at home and abroad.

In Hall C, The Eligere Gallery is displaying the work of Tania Marmolejo, a Dominican-born American artist. Tania Marmolejo's work also set a record for her entire work to be sold out before Kiaf PLUS opened.

The booth of HOFA Gallery (House of Fine Art) in Hall A also caught the attention of the audience. HOFA Gallery, located in London, hungs works by Ilhwa Kim, who creates artworks using Korean paper rolls dyed directly on the entire surface, as well as Australian perceptual artist Jason Sims and Irish painter Mary Ronayne.

The area around COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on the eve of the World Art Festival, is crowded with many art officials from all over the world. 

 

Kiaf PLUS continues until September 5.

Meanwhile, the main events, Frieze Seoul and Kiaf SEOUL 2022, will start the festival all at once, starting with VIP viewing at COEX Halls A~D in Samseong-dong, Seoul at 2 pm on September 2.
