The annual photography contest in the Lommatzscher Pflege region has concluded, with winners selected from 66 submissions capturing daily life in this German countryside area. Running from late July through early November under the theme "Daily Life in Lommatzscher Pflege," the competition attracted 28 participants who documented their experiences living in the region.
The established jury, consisting of freelance photographer Gerhard Schlechte and Jan Giehrisch from WohnKulturGut Gostewitz, convened on November 6th at the Regional Development Office in Lommatzsch to evaluate the 2025 submissions. According to Markus Göldner from the Regional Development Office, the entries were assessed based on both creative and thematic criteria.
First place was awarded to Yvonne Schüttoff for her photograph titled "Verbundenheit" (Connection), which depicts a man proudly gazing at a flock of sheep. The image captured the deep connection between rural residents and their agricultural environment. Second place also featured an agricultural theme, with winner Theresa Laube's photograph "Dorfidylle" (Village Idyll) showing a woman leaning on a wooden fence while watching field work. Third place went to Aditya Christian for her image simply titled "Lommatzsch."
The competition organizer, LAG Lommatzscher Pflege, has allocated prize money and small gifts for each of the three winning positions. The winners will be formally honored during the opening ceremony of the Lommatzscher Hofweihnacht (Court Christmas Market) on December 6th, adding a celebratory conclusion to the photography competition.
However, organizers noted a disappointing development this year: the youth prize had to be cancelled due to insufficient participation from younger photographers. Göldner expressed hope that next year's competition, featuring a new theme, will succeed in engaging more young people in the photography contest and encourage greater youth participation in documenting regional life.
All submitted photographs are now available for public viewing on the official website at www.lommatzscher-pflege.de, allowing community members and visitors to appreciate the diverse perspectives captured by local amateur photographers throughout the region.
