The Asia Culture Center (ACC) will host the exhibition "A World Opened by the Monsoon: Port Cities of Southeast Asia" until February 1, 2026.
This exhibition explores the rich history and cultural heritage of port cities that developed along the maritime Silk Road in Southeast Asia, focusing on the trade and cultural exchanges facilitated by the monsoon winds.
The central theme of the exhibition, the "monsoon," refers to the seasonal winds originating from the Tibetan Plateau that have historically played a crucial role in maritime trade across the Indian Ocean.
Unlike the traditionally recognized land-based Silk Road, this exhibition highlights the historical developments along the maritime Silk Road of Southeast Asia, shaped by the monsoon.
Notably, the exhibition will showcase approximately 400 Asian artifacts from the "Nusantara Collection," collected in collaboration with the Netherlands' Delft Heritage.
Through vibrant paintings and sculptures, metal crafts, textiles, and woodworking, visitors can glimpse into the daily lives and spiritual practices of the people who once thrived in these bustling port cities.
